This is the first post in a regular effort on this blog highlighting interesting videos about Iowa and local matters in particular. I’ve combed YouTube and Google and pulled out interesting fare.
In the video below, a teen rants on his webcam about all the reasons why Iowa sucks from defaming movie stars born here to slamming local monuments. Videofix does not feel that Iowa sucks (although we didn’t like the flood) and we encourage viewers to send in a comment on why Iowa rules and where this testy teen can go! — Michael Barnes
Seriously, who disses John Wayne? Ashton I get. I almost even get dissing Des Moines (being a CR girl myself). I think he just likes saying “Iowa sucks”, and hope someday his vocabulary expands a tad – clearly he’s in need of a good Iowa Public School education (his profile claims he’s 21, but he’s acting like a snot-nosed kid). Having lived in places like Washington DC, the San Francisco Bay Area and Portland OR, I can say that Iowa is not fundamentally different than any of those places. Except that people are nicer, traffic is better, air quality is better, cost of living is lower, etc. People are the same everywhere, needing to eat, work, recreate, have relationships… Life is what you make of it, wherever you happen to be. I just hope the kid in that video someday learns there’s a reason we have two eyes, two ears and only one mouth.
I agree Liz. I’ve lived in Los Angeles, Miami and New York City and Iowa has the best quality of life anywhere. I think this is a local kid who hat put a “show of independence” on YouTube. Thanks for your comment. MB
