Often, you find straight on medium shots of interview subjects boring. You can spice up your shots by inserting something in the foreground in front of the subject. In the video below, I feel the interview shots are more visually interesting because I am shooting thru the foregrounded model airplane wings and other parts.
I once read in a blog to make a shot interesting go low or climb a tree. In this video, I placed the camera on the ground and recorded the interview. The low angle accentuates the wings of the bomber model plane aircraft. These shots are more visually rich than just pointing the camera at the subject in a medium shot.
So if you want a better composition, go low or go high and place something in the foreground! — Michael Barnes
